Cross in the Woods, located in Indian River, Michigan, was declared a national shrine by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2006. It is also the largest crucifix in the world. The highlight of the shrine is a large wooden cross and bronze figure of Christ, by sculptor Marshall Fredericks. Pictured above, Candice L. Tucker’s “Cross in the Woods” humbly attempts to recreate the experience otherwise embraced by the shrine’s 300,000+ visitors each year.
